For the second West Indies Test, England names a replacement for the retired Anderson in the team
After England's crushing innings victory at Lord's, James Anderson announced his retirement from international cricket. Mark Wood has been called up to the squad for the second Test.
After playing in five of England's eight matches at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 and taking just three wickets, all against Oman, Wood has returned to the England lineup.
With him included, England's pace attack—which already includes Dillon Pennington, Gus Atkinson, Chris Woakes, Matthew Potts, and Ben Stokes—will be stronger for the forthcoming game.
The following players will represent England in the second Test: Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Dillon Pennington, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, and Mark Wood.
After an outstanding debut in the first Test of the series, where he scored 70 runs and grabbed four catches, wicketkeeper-battler Jamie Smith will be back for the second Test.
Gus Atkinson stole the show during Anderson's final Test with a brilliant bowling display, finishing with match stats of 12/106.
Anderson finished his international cricket career with numbers of 3/32, capping a brilliant show of swing and seam bowling that left the hitters dazed.
