According to a state police statement, "A UDR (unnatural death report) has been filed at the Kothanur police station."
Johnson had been dealing with health problems for some time before being brought to St. Philomena's Hospital last week after claiming to be experiencing severe stomach pain.
"There has been no suspicion expressed by any member of his family. There was a "self-fall" involved, and no one saw it happen. Neither, a suicide note was found," the police stated, adding that despite this, an investigation was still underway.
Johnson, who is renowned for his speed, joined the Indian team after turning up some outstanding home-circuit performances for Karnataka. Against Kerala, he amassed 10 for 152 during the 1995–96 Ranji Trophy season.
In 1996, he played his first Test match against Australia in Delhi. Johnson and his Karnataka teammate Venkatesh Prasad bowled in tandem because Javagal Srinath was injured. After that, he played in the opening Test and embarked on a tour of South Africa.
However, because of his poor control, he was limited to just two Test matches, during which he claimed three wickets. In 2015, he played his final competitive match in the Karnataka Premier League.
