Gill looks good as captain, and the future appears bright for India's top order
The upcoming crop of Indian T20I batting talent, according to Shubman Gill, will be able to replace the recently retired superstar pair of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Shortly after India's triumphant ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign at the end of last month, Rohit and Kohli declared their international retirement from T20I cricket. It hasn't taken long for their most likely successors to raise their hands as possible replacements.
During India's 4-1 series victory over Zimbabwe that concluded in Harare on Sunday, Gill who just missed out on being selected for the T20 World Cup—was one of the team's better players.
The right-hander amassed a series-best 170 runs at an average of 42.50 while playing admirably as the opener and captain.
Prior to India's white-ball series in Sri Lanka at the end of this month and their three home matches against Bangladesh later in the year, Gill, 24, acknowledged that it was his first time captaining the country at the senior level and that he had enjoyed the experience.
