Mahmudullah sets a "unwanted" record by participating in the most hat-tricks
Pat Cummins, an Australian pacer, achieved the first-ever hat-trick in the T20 World Cup 2024, limiting Bangladesh to 140-8.
On the final ball of the eighteenth over, he removed Mahmudullah, who was batting on two, and Mahedi Hasan was removed from the game with the following delivery.
On the first delivery of the final over, the right-handed bowler achieved his hat-trick by taking the valuable wicket of Bangladesh's established batsman, Towhid Hridoy (40).
Notably, Mahmudullah became the first hitter in T20I cricket history to participate in three hat-tricks.
The seasoned batsman has now participated in six hat-tricks in international cricket, the most of any player in history.
By 28 runs, Bangladesh lost the game using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Australia was proclaimed the victors after reaching 100-2 in 11.2 overs before rain in Antigua stopped play.
Australia got off to a great start because to the aggressive powerplay scoring of 59 runs by Travis Head and David Warner. Rain briefly stopped the game following the powerplay.
After play resumed, Head was removed by Rishad Hossain after scoring 31 off 21 balls. In the next over, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh was dismissed.
