New T20 World Cup 2024 records was set
India raised their second trophy to repeat as T20 world champions after defeating South Africa in an exciting final in the ninth edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, setting new records in a number of categories.
However, India's 176/7 against New Zealand in the final was the highest score by any side in a Men's T20 World Cup final, narrowly defeating Australia's 173/2 in 2021.
Furthermore, Rohit Sharmamade history by becoming the oldest player to lead a team to T20 World Cup victory at the age of 37 years and 60 days.
It was an excellent tournament for bowlers, as evidenced by the 17 wickets claimed by Arshdeep Singh of champions India and Fazalhaq Farooqi of semi-finalists Afghanistan one more than previous record-holder Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.
Notwithstanding the bowling prowess, there was a lot of big hitting; with 1,478, 2024 surpassed 2021's 1,349 boundaries to record the most in a T20 World Cup edition. It should come as no surprise that, out of those, 2024 had the most sixes (515), over 100 higher than 2021's 405 total.
Moreover, Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies blasted the most sixes in a T20 World Cup, with his 17 surpassing the record of 16 held by his illustrious countryman Chris Gayle.
