Sandeep Lamichhane makes history by being the second-fastest bowler in T20 history to take 100 wickets.
At the Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincent on Monday, during the ICC World Cup 2024 match between Nepal and Bangladesh, Sandeep Lamichhane became the second-fastest bowler to reach the milestone of 100 T20I wickets.
The leg-spinner, who leads Nepal in the format in wicket-taking, accomplished the milestone in 54 games, one more than his Afghan colleague Rashid Khan.
To reach the milestone, Lamichhane, who began the day with 98 wickets, took the wickets of Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Jaker Ali, two batsmen from Bangladesh.
The only player to reach 100 wickets in 53 matches was Rashid Khan of Afghanistan. Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka and Haris Rauf of Pakistan are ranked third and fourth, respectively, having accomplished the feat in 63 and 71 matches.
There are just nine bowlers who have taken 100 wickets in T20I and ODI combined. Sandeep Lamichhane beat Rashid Khan's record in the same number of matches to become the bowler with the fastest 100 ODI wickets. Lamichhane accomplished this feat in just 42 matches.
With 19 wickets against Malaysia, Lamichhane has had the most success against them. He has not taken a wicket while representing Nepal; his only loss came against South Africa.
