The return of Jofra Archer to the Test team was long overdue: Ben Stokes is happy to see the pacer again

England captain Ben Stokes said the squad is delighted to have fast bowler Jofra Archer back in the playing XI for the third Test match against India at Lord's, starting on July 10. It will be Archer's first Test after four years, and he comes in place of Josh Tongue in the side.

Though Archer was named in the squad for the final match at Edgbaston, he didn't play as he was still building up his fitness. During the press conference on July 9, Stokes said that Archer's comeback is great news for the supporters and the player himself since he has worked hard to recover from numerous injuries.

Stokes praised Archer for the manner in which he stayed strong and committed during his rehab and said that the fast bowler should be proud to have recovered from two major injuries.

Archer's most recent Test outing came in February 2021, against India as well. While Gus Atkinson was added to the squad after the loss at Edgbaston, he was not a part of the final XI. Archer has so far played 13 Tests for England and taken 42 wickets at 31.04.
