Airee and bowlers shine in Royals' 90-run victory over Kings
KATHMANDU: In the fourth game of the Nepal Premier League, the Sudurpaschim Royals defeated Biratnagar Kingsby a commanding 90 runs at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. A convincing victory was guaranteed by the Royals' all-around performance, which displayed their bowling and hitting depth.
The Sudurpaschim Royals set a challenging goal of 183 runs when they batted first. Captain Dipendra Singh Airee was crucial despite losing wickets early on thanks to a scorching unbeaten 57 off just 24 balls, which included three boundaries and five massive sixes. The innings gained much-needed momentum thanks to his hit.
After opener Amit Shrestha was caught by Martin Guptill off Ismat Alam for one run in the second over, the Royals' batting got off to a rough start. After being removed by Anil Kharel, Binod Bhandari (23) and Brandon McMullen (36) attempted to salvage the innings but were unable to convert their beginnings. At 69-4 by the eleventh over, the Royals were having trouble.
The course of the game was altered by Airee's counterattack. The Royals were able to take advantage of the last overs thanks to his aggressive shot-making. The Royals reached a commanding 182-7 thanks to contributions from Ishan Pandey (21), who was run out after a strong start, and fleeting appearances by Basant Khatri (4) and Scott Kuggeleijn (10).
The Biratnagar Kings had a difficult time pursuing the objective and made a significant mistake. Martin Guptill, their top opener, was dismissed for a duck in the opening over, ruining their innings. Early in the innings, the Kings were reeling at 11-3 as Nicholas Kirton and Lokesh Bam both fell cheaply.
Although they had trouble forming partnerships, Rajesh Pulami (15) and Basir Ahamad (24) tried to steady the innings. The Kings were constantly under pressure from the wickets falling, and they never appeared to have a chance of reaching the objective.
The bowlers for Sudurpaschim put up a brilliant display, with Abinash Bohara leading the way with an incredible 3–17. With the ball, Scott Kuggeleijn was equally impressive, taking three wickets for 30 runs and destroying the middle and lower order.
It was a one-sided end to the match as the Kings were eventually bowled out for just 92 runs in 16.1 overs. The Royals' batting efforts were enhanced by their careful fielding and disciplined bowling attack.
The Royals were able to show off their strength and balance in this resounding victory because to Airee's leadership and teamwork. A successful tournament campaign is indicated by the team's ability to bounce back from early setbacks.
