Captain Markram has high expectations for South Africa's future
The loss to India in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Final, according to defeated South Africa captain Aiden Markram, will motivate his team to achieve more in the future.
"Hopefully it's one step closer," he remarked following the event. You have to give credit to a side like India for winning the trophy because it's tournament cricket—tough, competitive cricket that isn't easy to win. It requires a lot of laborious effort.
"But yeah, we'd like to think we're one step closer and hopefully moving forward we can get that first win and it can be a snowball effect of quite a few to come."
He went on to say that he was proud of his players for pushing India so hard and that he had trouble pinpointing a turning point in the game.
"There are some amazing folks in this group. They deserve wonderful things to come their way, in my opinion. Before we arrived, I had a really positive feeling about this competition, and as it progressed, that feeling just grew.
"So, it's difficult to deal with right now, but in the end, it's just a sport. There will be a winner and a loser in this. And we'll attempt to channel it into fuel for next activities."
