Day 1 in Jay Trophy: Batsmen struggle with spinner's tight bowling
Under the organization of Nepal Cricket Association (CAN)Jay Trophy Men's Elite Cup 2081, which started on Sunday, both the first-day matches ended on Sunday.
On Sunday, the first day's match was played between Nepal Police Cluband Tribhuvan Army Clubin Parsa's Birganj and Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province's Janakpur in Dhanusha.
After losing the toss, the Army batting first was limited to a moderate total. Army was bundled out for 121 runs in 34.4 overs. Kushal Malla scored the highest 25 runs, while Bhim Sarki scored 22, and captain Binod Bhandari scored 21.
Police's Lalit Rajbanshi alone took seven wickets. Lalit took 7 wickets with 47 runs in 17.4 overs. Similarly, Kushal Bhurtel, Saravan Yadav, and Rashid Khan took 1 wicket each. Lalit took the wickets of Santosh Karki, Tritraj Das, Sompal Kami, Basir Ahmed, Vivek Yadav, Shahab Alam, and Akash Chand.
In reply, the Police scored 103 runs for losing 7 wickets after playing 24 overs at the end of the first day. Police are now only 18 runs behind the lead. His Gulshan Jha is unbeaten on 34 runs. Army's Sahab Alam took 5 wickets while Sompal Kami and Pawan Karki took 1 wicket each.
Similarly, in another match between Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province in Janakpur, Madhesh won the toss and scored 102 runs in 35.2 overs. Madhesh's Mayan Yadav scored the highest 21 runs. Sandeep Lamichhane of Bagmati took 5 wickets, Surya Tamang took 3 wickets and Nandan Yadav and Pratish Ji took 1 wicket each.
In reply, Bagmati scored 34 runs by losing 2 wickets while playing 13 overs. Bagmati's Shubh Kansakar scored 22 and Ishan Pandey scored 9 runs. Madhesh's Rupesh Singh and Vishal Patel took 1 wicket each.
The batsmen struggled in the first day's play as the spinners bowled lethally. Out of the total 29 wickets that fell on the first day, 22 wickets were in the name of Spinner. As three players completed the 5-wicket figure, Lalit took only 7 wickets.
On Monday, the second day of both matches will start in the morning.
