England desires to 'throw first punch' against India
England's Matthew Mott has urged his team to "throw the first punch" when they play India on Thursday in the T20 World Cup semifinals.
Thus far, England's tournament has been chaotic. Following a sluggish beginning that resulted in a loss to Australia and a washout versus Scotland, Mott's team has shown signs of improvement.
After losing to South Africa in the Super 8s, they defeated co-hosts USA by an impressive 10-wicket margin to secure a spot in the semi-final, which will be played against India again in 2022.
Mott is optimistic that his squad may win the tournament, nevertheless, as England's performances have been better throughout.
"We haven't quite clicked as a whole unit yet," Mott stated. "Bits and pieces have worked at different times but our 'A-game' unquestionably sufficient to compete with India.
India has progressed easily through the competition, winning their Super 8s group on Monday with an emphatic 24 run victory over Australia.
In the initial group stage, Australia defeated England, and in the Super 8s, they were defeated by South Africa.
They needed convincing wins against Oman and Namibia to avoid being eliminated early after their opening match against Scotland washed out.
