Lumbini Lions became the first team to be stopped in the league stage of NPL
Lumbini Lionsbecame the first team to be stopped in the league stage under the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket competition.
Lumbini Lions, who have played six matches in the ongoing tournament, have lost five and won only one. Now, with only one match left to play in the league stage, the possibility of Lumbini Lions reaching the next stage has ended.
Chasing a target of 104 runs, Lumbini was bowled out for 85 in 19.2 overs. Lumbini's best scorer, Sandeep Jora, scored 26 runs off 29 balls, including two boundaries. Surya Tamang stayed unbeaten with 11 runs, while captain Unmukt Chand contributed 14. None of the other hitters were able to reach double figures.
With four wickets for 16 runs in four overs, Kathmandu's captain, Karan KC, led the bowling attack with an outstanding display. With three wickets for just six runs in his four overs, Dipesh Kandel was equally brilliant. Rashid Khan contributed one wicket, and Gerhard Erasmus took two wickets for 19 runs. Despite going wicketless, Shahab Alam bowled cheaply, giving up 10 runs in 4 overs.
At the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu chose to bat first and was bowled out for 103 runs in 19.2 overs. With 31 runs, Bhim Sharki led the team, followed by Dan Douthwaite with 21, Pratik Shrestha with 20, and Stephen Eskinazi with 13.
Saad Bin Zafar took three wickets for twenty-one runs in his four overs for Lumbini. Surya Tamang and Bivek Yadav each took one wicket, while Ramon Simmons and Abhishek Gautam took two.
Although Lumbini Lions won in the last match, the two teams who scored 8 points and the two teams who scored 6 points remain in the top four positions in the points table. That is why Lumbini wrote their name as the first team to be eliminated from the league stage in the first season of NPL.
