NPL: Lumbini Sets 168-Run Target Against Rhinos

KATHMANDU: At the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, the Lumbini Lions, who are still looking for their first Nepal Premier League (NPL) victory, set a goal of 168 runs for the Chitwan Rhinos. After winning the toss, Chitwan chose to field and, in the 20 overs that were given to them, restricted Lumbini to 167 runs for six wickets.

With opener Aashutosh Ghiraiya out for just one run and Arjun Saud for fifteen, Lumbini's innings got off to a bad start. The Lions were put under strain when Rijan Dhakal removed Ghiraiya and Unmukt Chand in the same over, which was a crucial time. As Rhinos captain Kushal Malla bowled out Tom Moores, their troubles persisted.

Lumbini's batting steadied despite the rocky start thanks to a solid partnership between Saad Zafar and captain Rohit Paudel. Zafar put up 52 off 35 before being run out, while Paudel spearheaded the attack with an outstanding 81 runs off 57 balls. The Lions achieved a competitive total thanks to their collective efforts.

The Chitwan Rhinos' bowling attack was led by Rijan Dhakal, who claimed three wickets for 29 runs, including crucial dismissals that halted Lumbini's advancement. Kushal Malla and Ranjeet Kumar each took one wicket to restrict Lumbini's total.

With Lumbini hoping to defend their score and ultimately earn a much-needed tournament victory, the contest now depends on Chitwan's ability to chase the target.
