NPL: Yaks secure 5-run victory over Lions
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Premier League (NPL) saw Karnali Yaks defeat Lumbini Lions by 5 runs on Friday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Karnali's chances of qualifying for the playoffs were enhanced by the fiercely contested encounter, which further increased Lumbini's campaign troubles.
After losing the toss, Karnali Yaks batted first and gave the Lumbini Lions a modest aim of 129 runs. Karnali was headed by Will Bosisto, who struck three fours and three sixes in a calm 44 off 30 balls. Arjun Gharti, who contributed 25 runs, provided support for him. Karnali lost eight wickets in 20 overs and reached 128 runs at the end of their innings. With three impressive wickets and two more from Tilak Bhandari, rookie Vikash Agri led Lumbini's bowling attack.
The Lumbini Lions' reaction was insufficient as they managed just 123 runs in their 20 overs at a cost of seven wickets. With 36 runs, Tom Moores led Lumbini in scoring, followed by Sundeep Jora with 24. The Lions found it difficult to form partnerships despite their best attempts, and the Yaks won by a slim margin thanks to Karnali's disciplined bowling, which was headed by Zeeshan Maqsood, who took two vital wickets.
Karnali Yaks currently have eight points from six games, solidifying their position on the points table with their victory. Together with Janakpur, they are currently seen as legitimate playoff candidates. The victory solidified Karnali's standing as a competitive club in the league by demonstrating their capacity to remain composed under pressure.
The Lumbini Lions' miserable campaign was made worse by this setback. They are currently at the bottom of the table and have only triumphed once in seven games, against the Chitwan Rhinos. Due to their inconsistent play, the Lions are unable to make headway in the competition.
The outcome of this exciting cricket match, in which teams compete for playoff spots, demonstrates how competitive the Nepal Premier League is. Karnali Yaks will now attempt to continue their winning streak, while Lumbini Lions will need to make a significant turnaround to be in the running.
