Rashid's valiant warriors inspire a T20 World Cup campaign with their strength and hunger
Delhi, New Delhi Afghanistan is struggling to compete in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the West Indies despite being devastated by war, having virtually no infrastructure or stadium of their own, and being burdened by sports politics.
In the T20 World Cup of 2024, the Afghans have not only made a splash by winning the Super 8 stage of the competition but they are also poised to go to the semi-finals after upsetting the reigning champions, Australia.
The reason behind this, according to former Indian cricketer Vijay Dahiya, is their mental and physical endurance from competing in various T20 tournaments across the world under a variety of situations.
"This Afghan team is hungry and incredibly resilient mentally. Although they are physically strong as well, mental toughness is more important in cricket. It wouldn't surprise me if they advanced to the semifinals.
"They are now a very dangerous side because they have self-confidence. They have been really popular," he said to PTI Videos.
Dahiya brought out the fact that the majority of Afghan players compete in high-level T20 Leagues at the international level. But Australia has continuously declined to welcome them for bilateral meetings, citing the Taliban's control over the nation and the consequent suppression of women's rights.
Afghanistan hopes to make history by advancing to the semi-finals and defeating Bangladesh on Tuesday after India defeats Australia on Monday.
