After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was photographed eating a piece of soil from the field, which went viral on social media and sparked a variety of remarks from online users.

Sharma stated that he wanted to have something with the stadium and pitch because they were so important to them in winning their World Cup final match here.

Since nothing was preplanned, I doubt I could adequately express it. We played on that specific pitch and won the game on that specific ground, so whatever was innately coming out, I was sensing that moment when I went to the pitch," he remarked.

"That pitch and that ground will always be a part of my memory. I therefore desired to carry a portion of it with me.
