The Cricket Association of Nepal has been ordered to halt all activities for the Nepal Premier League's second season amid an investigation into irregularities from the first edition. The CIAA is probing complaints about the league's tender process. A CAN board meeting in July will address the issue, though its president insists the NPL should not be stopped.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has been told to stop all work on the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) until an investigation into the first season is finished.

The investigation started after complaints were made to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) about problems during the first season, held from November 29 to December 21, 2024. The NPL was loved by fans and had famous players like Shikhar Dhawan and Martin Guptill. Janakpur Bolts won the championship.

The first complaint was made before the league started, on November 22, 2024, about a suspicious deal in the league’s tender process.

Another complaint came two months after the league ended. As a result, the CIAA contacted the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Sports Council (NSC) formed a committee to investigate.

The NSC has now asked CAN not to move forward with the second season until the investigation is complete. They are also expecting a clear response from CAN soon.

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand said the board will meet at the end of July to review the situation and share updates with the government and NSC. He believes the second season will be even better and sees no reason to cancel it.

For now, the investigation has caused a delay in the NPL’s progress, even though the first season was a big success.
