Gautam Gambhir has been named the new head coach of India
Gautam Gambhir, a former opener, has been named the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. Following a victorious ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024campaign, he will succeed Rahul Dravid.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, made the statement on social media. "It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team," Shah wrote on Twitter.
"Gautam has seen firsthand how quickly the game of cricket has changed in the modern era. I am convinced that Gautam is the best individual to lead Indian cricket forward since he has persevered through hardship and succeeded in a variety of roles during his career."
"His extensive expertise and distinct vision for Team India put him in an ideal position to assume this thrilling and highly sought-after coaching position. As he sets out on this new adventure, the BCCI is behind him wholeheartedly."
Having a distinguished career as India's opener in all forms, Gambhir most recently led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL triumph in the 2024 season while serving as head coach.
President of the BCCI Roger Binny praised Gambhir as the "ideal candidate" moving forward for India and thanked Dravid for his term in office.
"Team India now embarks on a journey under a new coach, Gautam Gambhir," Binny stated.
