Shahid Afridi's honest opinion on Gautam Gambhir's appointment as India's head coach

In the 2007 India-Pakistan match, former India opener Gautam Gambhir and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi engaged in a fierce altercation.

The Kanpur game marked the beginning of their bitter rivalry. Gambhir and Afridi were fined for their 2007 Kanpur altercation, which led to their continued animosity for over ten years.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah officially announced Gambhir's appointment as India's head coach on Tuesday. 

Former Pakistan captain Afridi expressed his opinions about Gambhir's hiring as India's head coach, saying that the two-time World Cupwinner has earned a significant opportunity.

He called it a big chance for Gambhir and pointed out that how well Gambhir takes use of it will determine how successful it is.

"It's a new opportunity and a big one," Afridi said, complimenting Gambhir's optimism and candor. Depending on how he takes use of the chance. I listen to his interviews occasionally. He is direct and speaks in a positive manner."

As the nation's youngest head coach at 42, Gambhir will now guide the upcoming crop of Indian cricket players.
