India wins against South Africa in the T20 World Cup
India's 13-year absence from the world cricket stage came to an end on Saturday as their men's side defeated South Africa in a thrilling final match of the T20 World Cup.
India and South Africa remained unbeaten ahead of their encounter in Barbados on Saturday. South Africa looked to be in the lead in the match, but India stopped them from scoring more than India's 176 runs.
India had won the first T20 World Cup in 2007, hence this was their second World Cup victory overall. In addition, it was India's first World Cup victory in 13 years in any form of cricket, following a year filled with heartbreaking close championship matches.
One of the team's best batsmen, Virat Kohli, was crucial to India's final victory over South Africa. After opting to bat first, the Indian team was already having problems as they had only amassed 34 runs in the first five overs.
This indicates that India had averaged just around one run per ball in the first quarter of their batting innings.
