Shubman Gill makes a compelling case for captaincy in front of Gautam Gambhir
In his maiden assignment as captain, Shubman Gill made a big impression, leading the Indian side to a convincing 4-1 series victory over Zimbabwe.
Following their victory in the T20 World Cup, Team India went through a transitional period as three of its senior players, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja, announced their retirements.
The BCCI made the decision to offer Shubman the significant chance to captain the Indian side in the absence of other established players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav.
The selectors supported the gifted Indian opener as the future of Indian cricket and selected him captain of the first series following the spectacular performance in the USA and West Indies, even though he was left off of the squad for the T20 World Cup.
The 24-year-old claimed that being captain brings out the best in him and said he liked his time leading Zimbabwe in the series.
Gill declared, "It is something that I definitely enjoy," following India's 4-1 series victory in T20Is in Harare.
"I believe being outside brings out the best in me since I appear engaged in the game. Being on the pitch truly brings out the best in me," he continued.
He was the series' top run scorer at the end of the five games. Shubman also discussed how he handled the strain of being captain and described it as a pleasurable aspect of his work.
