Madande, Bennett, and Campbell receive their first Test call-ups for Zimbabwe
The new faces in Zimbabwe's Test squad, announced earlier today, for the one-off match against Ireland later this month are Clive Madande, Brian Bennett, and Jonathan Campbell, all of whom are involved in the current T20 International series against India.
Included in the squad of 15 is Joylord Gumbie, who has not yet received a cap in the format. Zimbabwe, who are not participating in the ICC World Test Championship, will travel to Ireland for the first Test between the two nations, which is scheduled for July 25–29.
Zimbabwe last played a Test match against the West Indies in Bulawayo in February 2023. Belfast is where the match will take place.
Zimbabwe are using this chance to develop new talent and revitalize their Test cricket program, even if they are not participating in the ICC World Test Championship.
Three first-time Test call-ups are included in the squad: Jonathan Campbell, Brian Bennett, and Clive Madande. These young athletes are now taking part in the T20I series that is being played against India. Another uncapped member on the team, Joylord Gumbie, has also been added.
Ireland, Zimbabwe's opponents in Test cricket, have only participated in eight matches since making their debut in 2018. Their debut in the format, they just defeated Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.
