Sheikh Brothers Honored in Hometown for NPL Achievements

Sushil Kumar Kanu, Ward President of Birgunj Metropolitan City—10, honored the Sheikh Brothers (Arif Sheikh and Asif Sheikh)for their NPL achievements. Ashif Sheikh was the captain who made Janakpur Bolts the winner in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), and Arif Sheikh played an important role in making Sudurpaschim Royals the runner-up.

Arif Sheikh and Ashif Sheikh, players of Birgunj Murli 10 who performed excellently in the recently concluded Nepal Premier League (NPL)cricket tournament, have been awarded a letter of recognition and a Rs 51,000 cash prize.

Ward President Sushil Kumar Kanu, Awarding the Sheikh brothers cash in the program, said he was proud that the sons of Birgunj, Ashif, and Arif, had contributed to Birgunj's national and international recognition through sports by performing well in the NPL.

“I am a big fan of the game of cricket, and the excellent sportsmanship displayed by Arif and Ashif has made not only me proud, but the entire Birgunj community. I express my commitment to do whatever I can to encourage the game and players in the future."

Ward president Kanu believes that such honor programs will motivate the youth of Birgunj to be active in sports. “Sports lead the youth on the path of discipline, commitment, and success. We need to take more initiatives to make Birgunj a centre of sports,” he added.

Receiving the honour, Ashif Sheikh, captain of Janakpur Bolts, said that the love and respect shown by the people of Birgunj gave him deep inspiration. "We are always indebted to the people of Birgunj. Such honours play an important role in motivating the game and players more. We are constantly working to raise the name of the country along with Birgunj."

Likewise, Arif Sheikh expressed his gratitude for the honour and his commitment to improving his playing skills and contributing to the national and international level in the future.

The program was attended by ward committee members, ward secretaries, residents, sports lovers, and ward office representatives.
