Shikhar Dhawan Signs a Historic Contract with Karnali Yaks of the Nepal Premier League
Karnali Yaks, a team in the Nepal Premier League, announced that they have signed the famous Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. This will be Dhawan’s first time playing in Nepal’s domestic league, making him one of the biggest stars in Nepali cricket.
The team, led by their star player Sompal Kami, shared the news on social media. Dhawan will play in four matches and plans to visit well-known places in Nepal, such as the Pashupatinath Temple.Team officials traveled to India to sign Dhawan’s contract. The signing event was attended by important people, including Nepal’s Acting Ambassador to India, Dr. Surendra Thapa, and Grihendra Ghimire, co-owner of Karnali Yaks. The details about Dhawan’s payment were not made public.
Owner Jhanak Dutta Khanal said they are very happy to bring a world-famous player like Dhawan to Nepal, which will help both the team and Nepali cricket. Dhawan said he is excited to join Karnali Yaks and play in the league.
Co-owner Grihendra Ghimire said it was hard to bring a player like Dhawan because of money issues, but they are proud to do so. Dhawan’s presence will help the team and Nepal’s cricket grow.
Dhawan is following another famous player, Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, who played in Nepal’s Everest Premier League in 2021. Dhawan is one of the most well-known international players to play in Nepal.
Dhawan, 39, has played many matches for India and scored over 10,000 runs. He is one of India’s best players with 24 international centuries.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dhawan is the second-highest run scorer. He recently captained Punjab Kings and has played for five IPL teams, scoring 6,769 runs with many centuries and half-centuries.
Karnali Yaks also have other foreign players like Chadwick Walton from West Indies, Hussain Talat from Pakistan, and Babar Hayat from Hong Kong, along with their star Nepali player Gyanendra Malla.
