Lord's Test: Jofra Archer is predicted to return in the vein of Pat Cummins
Savage old England paceman Steve Harmison believes that Jofra Archer can come back to Test cricket in the way Pat Cummins's sensational return. Archer is making his four-year Test return against India at Lord's on July 10, after struggling with a succession of injuries. He replaces Josh Tongue in the team.
Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Harmison was a big fan of the return of Archer to red-ball cricket as "massive news." He had dismissed earlier suggestions that Archer was not dedicated to Test cricket, labeling those as unfair. "With all that he's gone through, the injuries, the criticism, and being written off—it's great to see him out in the field," said Harmison.
He added that Archer was always eager to feature in Test cricket and is optimistic his return will be the start of a good new era. Comparing him to Cummins, who missed out on six years of Test cricket before becoming the world's number one-ranked bowler, Harmison said that Archer's career can now take an upward swing.
"This is a big moment not only for Jofra, but for English cricket as well," Harmison opined, pointing out that having such a talent makes the team stronger in all the formats.
Archer has played 13 Tests and taken 42 wickets at a average of 31.04.
