With his sixth ODI century, Kusal Mendis leads Sri Lanka to a 2-1 series victory over Bangladesh
Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka, with a score of 124 runs from 115 balls in the third ODI after a difficult outing in the second ODI, engraves his name into the history of his beloved nation by scoring yet another century and assisting his team in a large 99-run victory versus Bangladesh on Tuesday, June 6 at Pallekele. Sri Lanka, with the victory in this match, also won the three-match ODI series 2-1, as indicated by the ICC. In the match, Sri Lanka successfully put up runs totaling to 285/7, while Bangladesh's total ended at 186 runs on the day. Mendis also earned Player of the Series for finishing with a total of 225 runs combined in the three matches.
Mendis' century was so important for him as he previously made 56 in Bangladesh's last victory against him in the second match but had to leave with a poor outing after Sri Lanka's loss. Mendis mentioned that he was happy with his performance, but wanting to finish the job this time around.
Bangladesh's Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who amassed 28 runs in the third ODI performance, mentioned that it was a team effort but his side should not fail to build essential partnerships that are often needed to win games in the ODI format. Bangladesh went all out at the 40 overs mark in the match.
Next up, the two countries will play a three-match T20I Series, beginning on Thursday, June 8 also at Pallekele.
