Sri Lanka requests BCCI for white ball visit after Bangladesh series cancellation
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has proposed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host a brief white-ball series in August. This follows after India's tour of Bangladesh was postponed. The series, if finalized, can witness the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are currently featuring only in ODIs.
SLC has suggested a series of six matches—three ODIs and three T20Is—matching the originally scheduled games in Bangladesh. The BCCI, though, is still to get back, since it's inextricably linked with the current negotiations involving the Asia Cup. Cricbuzz has been informed by an insider that both the events can be accommodated, but the BCCI would prefer discussing with players and coaches too before making a final call.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will be in London this week for the Lord's Test and is expected to hold talks with coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and senior players. It is possible that the BCCI may make a decision on SLC's proposal after these talks.
Rohit and Kohli, who have both retired from Tests and T20Is, could feature in the ODI series if it takes place. India were initially set to play six white-ball games in Bangladesh from August 17 to 31, but the tour was put back due to scheduling issues.
A decision on the Asia Cup, scheduled for September 10–28, is expected in a week or so. As hosts, the BCCI's ultimate decision will depend on guidance from the Indian government, especially with political ties with Pakistan, a participating nation, strained.
