The cricket world is in mourning following the death of Afghanistan's prominent umpire and ICC International Panel member, Bismillah Jan Shinwari. He was 41 and passed away due to illness.
Shinwari had a good international career, serving as an umpire in 25 ODIs and 21 T20Is. He started umpiring in 2017 with a match between Afghanistan and Ireland, and his last match was in February 2025 during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in Oman.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah said Shinwari was well-liked by players and officials and had a bright future ahead. He was shocked and sent condolences to his family.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) also condoled his death, calling Shinwari a dedicated servant of Afghan cricket and expressing sympathies to his family and the cricket community.
Shinwari is remembered for his professionalism, commitment, and love of the game, which earned him respect throughout the world.
