For the tri-series in Zimbabwe, New Zealand sustains an injury blow
New Zealand has a problem because opener Finn Allen can’t play in the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe due to a foot injury.
Allen sustained the injury while featuring for the San Francisco Unicorns in the newly formed Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA and will now travel home for medical clearance.
A full recovery plan will be developed after he is evaluated in New Zealand, but the 26-year-old has been ruled out of all matches in the tri-series against Zimbabwe and South Africa beginning July 14. Allen's replacement will be named later.
Allen had been in good form, finishing fifth in MLC’s top scorer ranking, making an impressive 151 runs in the Unicorns opener, also against Washington Freedom.
New Zealand will play their opening tri-series match against South Africa on July 16.
Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and captain Mitchell Santner are all back in the squad after missing the last T20I series in March against Pakistan.
